The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for Full-time, Permanent, Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse Manager. This position will be located in the Primary and Specialty Medicine Service Line. This is a working Nurse Manager position which requires you to work as an RN on the unit as patient demand necessitates and other staff are not able to be identified. The Nurse Manager position requires the dedication and commitment of an experienced RN to function in a leadership role that includes but is not limited to:
Supervisor, role model, educator and facilitator of staff development of team members within the ICU staff.
Works in partnership with the health care team in implementing standards of care in accordance with the purpose, philosophy and objectives of nursing while being a positive team player.
Responsible for facilitating teamwork to accomplish quality care, productivity/efficiency, clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction goals and objectives. Assists in the orientation of staff.
The Nurse Manager position requires excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills, recent leadership experience that involves directing others, and demonstrates a history of excellent collaborative relationships with physicians and other supportive services.
Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary groups in a cohesive manner. Fosters positive staff relations and supports management when interpreting philosophy, policies/procedures, goals and objectives to staff.
Routinely reviews work processes to improve efficiency, safety, and resource management.
Works within policy, and contractual agreements when planning assignments, setting priorities, and preparing schedules.
Responsible for resource management to include but not limited to staffing, productivity, management of Hours per Patient per Day (HPPD), and staffing effectiveness.
Completes the schedules to meet staffing requirements, VA regulations, and the Master Staffing Plan.
Evaluates effectiveness of patient care, and resource management utilization on assigned unit, identifies need for change of services, and/or care delivery, and participates in the development of appropriate action plans.
Keeps abreast of nursing trends, issues and demographics, and rewarding and recognizing, unit staff (awards).
Accountable for accurate and timely completion of all staff proficiencies.
Hearing and resolving complaints of personnel, and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors. This includes keeping the supervisor apprised of all issues that are, or may have potential for concern to unit, ADPCS/NE, and ACON as Assigning work based on priorities, policy, contractual agreements, selective consideration of the difficulty, and requirement of the assignments, and the capabilities, and competencies of personnel.
Monitoring, reporting, and recording continuing education/training attendance records for assigned staff to assure compliance in TMS appropriate to the unit.
Understands nursing qualifications standards, application of, and measurement of staff performance. Interprets guides, and coaches staff to meet standards.
Recommending, and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate in accordance with policy.
Monitoring, and reporting compliance with the medication administration to include BCMA, and Omnicell process.
Displays leadership or participates in unit-level, or Sioux Falls VA Health Care System level Performance improvement Teams, Risk Management processes, Root Cause Analyses processes, or performance improvement activities.
Identifying, developmental, and training needs of personnel, and providing, or making provision for such development, and training. This includes: initiating developmental plans, performance improvement plans, or reorientation well before the probationary period expires, proficiency, or performance appraisal is due.
MSN and ANCC Certification in critical care preferred.
Five (5) years of ICU experience (2-3 years of nurse management experience) preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, or willingness to become BLS & ACLS certified, required.
NOTE: The ICU Nurse Manager reports to the ACON of Inpatient Care. Assignment to other areas of the service line, medical center, or CBOC's may be required which would involve travel to those sites. Weekends, holidays, and intermittent off tour nursing coordinator coverage may be required; flexibility in tours and days of week will be required. WORK SCHEDULE: The primary tour of duty for this position is typically Monday-Friday, Days. The position requires 24/7 responsibility and incumbent will be required to work weekends, holidays, and nights depending on patient demand. Functional Statement: Registered Nurse
