The Section of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation has an opening for a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, instructor position to work at Children’s Hospital Colorado at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.
The University of Colorado Denver is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the position of Instructor with our Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Group in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO), led now by Dr. Mike Verneris. This individual will join 4 other BMT NPs and PAs working in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
The Section, which includes 35 MD faculty and 19 Advanced Practice Providers, is a member of the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Consortium, the Children’s Oncology Group and the University of Colorado Cancer Center and has an active fellowship program. The BMT program performs 70-80 transplants/year, using all donor types. The oncology program treats approximately 300 newly diagnosed cancer patients yearly with active subspecialty programs in neuro-oncology, leukemia/lymphoma, solid tumors, bone marrow transplantation, experimental therapeutics, survivorship, and palliative care. There is a strong clinical program in hematology with areas of emphasis that include hemophilia/thrombosis, sickle cell anemia, bone marrow failure, immunohematology, and transfusion medicine. There are robust clinical, translational and/or basic research programs in experimental therapeutics, hemophilia and thrombosis, leukemia, neuro-oncology, stem cell transplantation, and transfusion medicine.
The CHCO is located on the Anschutz Medical campus in Aurora that also includes the University of Colorado Hospital, the VA Hospital, the School of Medicine and allied Schools, and several major research buildings. The CHCO is a 456-bed pediatric hospital that includes a 48-bed hematology/oncology/BMT unit and adjacent outpatient clinic and infusion center. The Program also has satellite offices and clinics in Highlands Ranch and Colorado Springs. There are approximately 18,000 outpatient visits/year at the Aurora campus and an additional 5,000 visits/year at the satellite offices. There were 11,162 total inpatient days on our service in 2015.
Job Responsibilities: This full time position will focus on inpatient and outpatient care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults undergoing allogeneic and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplants for malignancies, hematopoietic failure states, and genetic disorders. You will be expected to integrate your role with the multi-disciplinary BMT Team and other experienced BMT advanced practice providers in providing outstanding inpatient and outpatient care.. Procedures performed will include bone marrow aspirates and biopsies, and lumbar punctures You will be a member of a research team, with responsibilities for contribution to clinical research.
Required Qualifications: Advance Practice Nursing or Physician Assistant degree. For Nurse Practitioners, Acute Care Certification is preferred. Previous experience in a BMT or Oncology setting is desirable. New Grads will be reviewed, if they have previous experience in oncology or BMT.
