We are currently seeking an Oncology Nurse. The role of the Oncology Nurse is focused on patient assessment, patient education, and the coordination of care, symptom management and supportive care for the Oncology and Hematology patients.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Specialty training in Oncology/Hematology preferred;outpatient experience.
Assess learning needs and educates the patient and family in disease process, chemotherapy treatment plan, side effects, and side effect management.
Educates patients and families regarding administration of home injections; reviews survivorship care plans with patients.
Reviews patient’s clinical status and laboratory values pre-treatment and consults with physician when appropriate. Has knowledge of chemotherapy/biotherapy protocols.
Triages patient phone calls.
Evaluates patient responses to interventions and follows through to resolution of issues.
Works collaboratively with VNA and Hospice to provide for care at home.
Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
Performs port flushes and dressing changes.
Performs veni-puncture of lab specimens.
Performs inter muscular and subcutaneous injections as ordered by MD.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum 2 years experience required. Oncology experience preferred. BSN Preferred.
Knowledge of nursing process, theories, and clinical expertise related to patient care, normally acquired through the completion of a nursing training program at an NLN accredited school of nursing.
Current registration in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team of health-care personnel to resolve complex problems.
Ability to acquire through training programs and continuing education technical knowledge related to assigned area.
