The Oncology Nurse will work in the Out-patient Infusion Center, utilizing the nursing process to provide care to patients and families in the ambulatory care setting, as directed by physicians, supervised by the Cancer Center manager.
Essential Functions: 1. Directs, guides, provides and/or evaluates direct and indirect care to outpatient oncology patients and families by utilizing physical and psychosocial assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation techniques based on research and oncology nursing knowledge. 2. Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members (Social Services, dietary, Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist. etc.) to mobilize appropriate resources to meet patient/family needs. 3. Provides and reinforces education to patients and families regarding treatment plans, expected side effects and interventions. 4. Administers infusions, chemotherapy, and supportive drugs under the direction of physicians, following established policies and procedures, and assesses and evaluates response to treatment, facilitating interventions as appropriate. 5. Maintains a safe environment by following established policies and procedures related to personal protective equipment and management of hazardous waste. 6. Through documentation and coding activities, generates complete and accurate data to support appropriate and timely reimbursement for services rendered. 7. Actively participates in CQI activities to enhance the quality of services provided in the Cancer Center.
• At least 2 years of hospital med surg experience
• Experience in the management of Central Lines and starting peripheral IVs.
License / Certification: • Current Registration with the California Board of Registered Nurses • Oncology Nursing Certification within one year of hire • BLS level “C”
Preferred Position Qualifications: • Chemotherapy Administration Experience and Chemo Certification • High level of expertise in placement of intravenous needles.
