Oncology Hematology Care (OHC) is currently accepting resumes for a Medical Assistant in Springfield, OH. OHC is the region's premier provider of care related to cancer and blood disorders including a wide range of services, state-of-the-art treatments and technologies.
A Medical Assistant is responsible for multifunction role in the physician practice setting. Responsibilities include direct patient care, administrative duties, laboratory services, and assisting in the office flow of patient care. Escorting patients back to clinical care area and collecting necessary information (test results, vital signs, phlebotomy, lab tests) for physician, prior to treatment. Other responsibilities of a Medical Assistant include the following:
Performs injections and laboratory testing, as ordered by a physician.
Performs patient care including documenting weight, vital signs, and chief complaint.
Responsible for phlebotomy and specimen collection.
Assists with medical procedures, including bone marrow biopsies, paracentesis, etc.
Appropriately follows procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis and results reporting.
Is proficient in all aspects of laboratory instrumentation, to include basic operation, quality control, preventive maintenance, reagent storage, troubleshooting and documentation.
Can identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results, corrects the problem or immediately notifies the appropriate person(s).
Reviews patient medical records in advance of appointment, for completeness. Obtains all missing documents, notes, test results, etc. prior to appointment.
Verifies that all physician orders have been completed.
Schedules outpatient diagnostic tests for patients.
Provides insurance pre-certification if needed.
Reviews fee tickets to ensure that all tests and procedures have been recorded
Excellent phlebotomy and basic medical assistant clinical skills.
Working knowledge of medical billing requirements, including CPT and ICD-9 coding.
Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with physicians and non-physician support staff.
Effective communication skills when dealing with patients and family members.
High school diploma or equivalent.
One to two years experience as a medical assistant in an office environment, including phlebotomy and injections
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Medical Assistant certification or registration for state(s) of practice preferred
