Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for our offices located in Norfolk.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting
Initiate and document appropriate interventions
Assist in establishing treatment goals to include end of life discussions or advance directives, pain control, symptom management, and provide supportive services for the patient and family
Assess for psychosocial and spiritual needs
Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol
Prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
Assess patient and family needs and provides education
Promotes/provides staff education
Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting
Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice
Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Minimum of three (3) years post MSN experience in oncology nursing or oncology Physician Assistant
Board certified / eligible in Hospice and Palliative Nursing or Physician Assistant in Hospice and Palliative Care or a willingness to pursue certification
Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment
RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant
Current CPR certification required
Must be willing to travel to the various practice locations
