The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Position requires at least 1 year medical office work experience. Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus. Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Proficiency with computer systems a requirement. Microsoft (Outlook, Office Word, and Excel) a plus.
Position is considering all levels of experience
Under direct supervision, dedicated to outside scheduling of physician referrals and or outside testing as directed by the physician. Obtain necessary insurance authorization. Communicate to the patient the type of test, any necessary prep and the date/time/location of the appointment. Serves as a liaison between patients, medical staff and referring offices. Follows standard procedures and pre-established guidelines to complete tasks. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Is fully versed in insurance authorization and at times MD peer-to-peer and or the appeals process to get a test authorized. -Obtains and enters all authorization and correspondence relating to outside referrals in EMR. -Is knowledgeable in the different types of tests and departments within hospital -Communicates to patient what the test is and any necessary prep -Knows required questions to ask when scheduling certain tests, i.e. allergies, current medications -Understand medical terminology associated with each test is: CT, MRI MUGA, PET, Bone Scan, Dye Study, ECHO, Mammograms, Bone Marrow Biopsy, PET/CT, PFT, Venous Doppler, Ultrasound, Groshong Placement/Removal, General Surgeons, Gastrointestinal, Urologist, outside physicians; how to authorize and who to schedule with. -Schedules outpatient appointments/testing and hospital admissions upon request -Obtains necessary pre-certification as required - Follow up on all tests to ensure completed prior to next visit with internal Physician - Communicate with patients regarding outside appointments scheduled for them - Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/corporation -Researches and responds to routine and non-routine inquiries in a timely and professional manner -Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the front office -Other duties as requested or assigned
