Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute is recruiting for a Nursing Manager to supervise the Thoracic Clinic in Scarborough. This clinic provides services to patients with thoracic and esophageal cancer, as well as benign diseases in a multidisciplinary setting. Our low dose CT screening program also provides services in the clinic. The multidisciplinary group includes Thoracic Surgeons, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Patient Navigation, Social Work, Clinical Nursing and Nutrition services.
If you are someone who enjoys the clinical side, but also likes to manage people, and develop relationships to improve patient care and impact operations this blended role is ideal. This will be a working manager position with 2 days of clinical responsibilities supporting the day to day operations in this growing clinic. Management responsibilities include supervision of staff (patient navigators, clinical RNs and medical assistants), staff development, and coordination of care between the inpatient and outpatient setting. Opportunities for growth will come with experience in the position.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience and 5 years’ surgical or oncology experience. Oncology certification is preferred, but will consider candidates eligible to certify.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine.
BSN required; Master’s preferred.
Interpersonal and management skills in order to deal with complex management problems.
Communicates effectively with unit and administrative personnel, physicians, a variety of other hospital staff and persons within the community.
Advanced knowledge and expertise in providing care in order to oversee others and serve as effective resource at a level normally acquired through two or three years of progressive experience.
Requires a high level of critical thinking and analytical skills to make management decisions at unit level and make recommendations for consideration on departmental issues.
Requires the ability to integrate the knowledge of teaching principles and counseling techniques in order to direct the growth of the unit staff.
Requires a high level of organization skills, effective time management and delegation strategies that include the ability to rapidly prioritize and adjust work flow according to changing unit needs.
