This position is responsible for the delivery of chemotherapy in an outpatient infusion center within the suite of the Gynecologic Cancer Institute of Chicago. Safely administers, and documents chemotherapy treatments as prescribed. Educates patients and their families. Evaluates and/or assesses patient care needs and intervenes as appropriate. Collaborates with physicians and clinical staff to ensure the highest quality of patient care.
Independently performs oncology specific assessments with emphasis on previous health history, current disease process, prescribed treatment plan, and potential nursing intervention. Reporting specific findings to the physician, and developing a nursing plan of care which correlates with the physician treatment program.
Independently evaluates each patient’s and/or family’s learning needs, providing comprehensive oncology information/education as appropriate. Develops teaching plan which provides specific disease, treatment, and side effect management information.
Facilitates continuity of patient care. Serves as a patient advocate, facilitating communication between the patient, family, physician, and all involved disciplines.
We are a group of 4 gynecologic oncologists and 3 PA's. Our infusion center has 9 chairs and we do a average of about 12 patients per day.
Current Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Illinois. Oncology experience and OCN certification required. Minimum of 1 year of chemotherapy infusion experience.
