The RN will use evidence~based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience. The nurse delivers and coordinates patient~centered care across the continuum to support the successful transition of patients to other healthcare delivery systems or their home communities. .
We have 2 shifts in our infusion center; our 10 hour shift is from 7a-5:30p and our 8 hour shift is from 8a-4:30p. The schedule is made and distributed in advance so each nurse knows when they are working 10’s or 8’s. New RN’s would start as an 8 hour and could potentially transition to the 10 hour shift once their training and orientation is complete, it would be dependent on the staffing needs.
Patients per day varies, however, I would say on average there are 30 patients per day. We have gone as high as 40 patients per day.
Primary responsibilities are chemotherapy/immunotherapy administration, accessing ports, lab draws, hydration and then charting/documentation.
each nurse typically has 5-6 patients per day.
Additional responsibilities are starting IVs, managing infusion reactions, and administering blood products.
