The Director of Oncology Clinical Trials oversees all aspects of oncology research operations. The Director leads the long-term research agenda of the oncology early drug development program as well as phase II and III oncology studies conducted within the HonorHealth network by providing consultation and support to key evaluation components of HonorHealth Research Institute's programs and distributes research findings to healthcare staff and the community. The Director plays a critical role in developing and maintaining relationships between the organization and clinical departments as well as business partners.
Responsibilities will include providing high-level management in the overall Institute's oncology business operations and administrative functions through personnel management, outreach, and technology. The Director of Oncology Clinical Trials is accountable for efficient process development, management, research integration, and effective recruitment of personnel, capital planning, oncology clinical research programs and new program development that meets the organization's key strategic initiatives. The Director of Oncology Clinical Trials will work closely with physician scientists, administrators, clinicians, and researchers to understand their goals and provide recommendations and business models for the growth and advancement of the respective programs, ensuring its integrity at every point while adjudicating complex issues pertaining to access to cores/shared resources. Other general support includes close coordination with the HonorHealth Foundation as well as oncology service line, organization, implementation and participation in HRI related leadership and scientific meetings and events.
The incumbent utilizes excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with senior administrative staff in multiple settings, divisions and sites to foster collaborative research activities by providing research and methodological support for personnel. Serves as tactical point person as it relates to patient care, staff development, physician relationships, quality initiatives, program development, and system-wide success. Assures evidence-based patient care by creating an environment that encourages the use of research in practice. Specific accountabilities include:
Oncology Research Program and clinic operations: oversees oncology research data management team; oversees the clinical research nursing team that conducts study-related clinic visits as directed including preparing progress notes, orders, patients scheduling, and tracking and notification of appropriate personnel of significant patient issues; maintains calendar of study monitor schedule and provides data as requested by monitors and makes timely corrections to research data as needed; participates in site initiation and additional sponsor visits by sponsor monitors as needed; prepares, maintains and audits patient research charts; prepares and files informed consent; prepares and files Serious Adverse Event reports to both sponsors and IRB as needed; prepares research materials in accordance with protocol; and manages Clinical Research Coordinators.
Promotes an environment that supports excellence in personalized patient care and service by leading and directing implementation of a nursing leadership model and collaborative practice delivery system to commit to absolute quality, clinical care and service. Fosters collaborative partnerships with medical staff, members of the organization, and community. Uses evidence-based knowledge in decision making to improve and maintain high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
Oversees the staff and ensures adequate staffing levels, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching and developing employees ensuring employee productivity, quality of work and alignment of goals with our mission, vision and values. Ensures compliance with all policies, financial stewardship by being accountable for the financial integrity around development and maintenance of department budget.
Project Expansion and Program Development: Works with other members of the team to develop clinical trials, grants, abstracts, posters, manuscripts and presentations for peer review journals and conferences in oncology.
Works with others on the relational aspect of the templates in the EMR to assure accurate reporting of data; uses Crystal Reports to extrapolate meaningful data from the EMR system for reporting purposes; and to serve as a basis for decision making.
Conducts predictive analyses for forecasting, marketing campaign management and medical management; analyzes and designs models for healthcare data to support health services intervention programs and medical utilization models; identifies cost savings strategies within the department; develops research grant proposals to subsidize costs associated with ongoing studies.
Quality: Ensures all clinical research projects and studies meet regulatory requirements on an ongoing basis; maintains accurate data and reporting tools to transfer clinical data to appropriate departments.
