Develops, analyzes, and conducts complex financial analyses to assess the viability of strategic and financial plans and programs, independently. Integrates financial principles, theories, and concepts to develop reports. Monitors results from program and project implementation. Department/Unit Summary:
Vanderbilt's Section of Surgical Sciences combines many of our surgical departments at Vanderbilt into one framework with the commitment to providing the best in patient care. Our specialty teams of surgeons and researchers work closely with one another to discover and reveal the latest medical and surgical innovations, while teaching our residents the many facets of surgery. This collaboration of disciplines allows us to provide an array of conventional and unique surgical services to the entire mid-south region resulting in outstanding patient outcomes.

Additional Key Elements/ Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the preparation of Section financial reports, budgets, and other ad-hoc financial proformas and projections.
- Assists with the preparation of capital and operating budgets, ensures department and institutional reporting is completed as needed.
- Maintains reporting information systems to provide CBO and AOs information to direct business activities.
- Assist the CBO in the development of long and short range strategic plans and objectives.
- Assumes a supportive role in analyzing and exploring means of reducing Section operating costs and increasing revenues based on knowledge of market trends, financial reports and operating procedures.
- Oversees that all financial data and associated reports required by the Section and VUMC are provided in a timely manner.
- Prepares surgical projection and scenario forecasting as needed
- Assist the department AOs in coordination and planning of annual budget process and tracking of progress on monthly basis
- Preparation and delivery of all financial presentations to management
- Works extensively in Microsoft Excel running reports, evaluating data, and utilizing V Lookup and pivot table functions. Knowledge of ThinkCell charting tools, PowerPoint presentations, Statistical graphing and data visualization
- Extensive experience with projections, proforma development and project budget planning
- Experience with Healthcare Coding (CPT, DRG codes for data mining, projections and planning)
- Develops projections to model the financial impact of programs and projects. Supports efforts of customers to sustain results from program and project implementation.
- Investigates and analyzes financial transactions and/or regulations in support of programs and projects, and/or reviews monthly results and budget variances.
- Designs, develops, and modifies financial forecasting models and simulations for programs. Accumulates and analyzes data from existing or established databases.
- Presents financial, statistical, and operational reports. Analyzes budget impact of implemented programs/projects and provides input for financial projections.
- Analyzes and reports on the effects of proposed federal and state statutes and regulatory actions which may impact financial planning.
- Analyzes future trends and indicators in related areas of interest. Reviews data to analyze trends affecting budget needs.

Position Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree (or equivalent experience) and 4 years experience required. ( MBA preferred,CPA preferred,7-10 years of experience strongly preferred,Basic healthcare coding knowledge preferred)
