The Nurse Manager assures the provision of nursing care services in collaboration with other health professionals. This unit is a 20-bed medical/oncology unit that provides care to adult and geriatric medical oncology patients, as well as surgical gynecology patients. Most patients have a primary and/or secondary diagnosis of cancer and require treatment of chronic and episodic illness, therapeutic interventions, and side effect management. Care is also provided to patients in the terminal phase of illness. Unique services provided include chemotherapy administration and side-effect management, blood administration, management of oncologic emergencies, pain management, psychosocial and spiritual care, and inpatient hospice care.
