Surgical Oncology Nurse Practitioner II
Salary Range: $72.85 – $96.14 Hourly

The role of the Surgical Oncology NP II within the Department of surgery is to provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical care expertise and management to surgical oncology patients and their families on an on-going basis. This will include both inpatient and outpatient sites of care, with the goal of facilitating multidisciplinary care through interaction with Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology. Outpatient care provided includes but not limited to, initiating appropriate consultations and referrals, postoperative patient wound evaluation, wound evaluation and care, seroma evacuation, follow-up evaluations; and patient care planning, care education, and coordination of care. Inpatient care provided includes rounding with physicians, facilitating discharge and post discharge needs including appointments, drain and wound care instructions, and coordination of healthcare resources at home.
Patient management decisions will be independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. NP’s are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents, and other ancillary staff. This position will be required to interface with the community via social media, educational classes, and on-line work.
Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
At least 2 years of recent NP experience in a surgical setting or in oncology.
Recent wound care experience.
Experience in the management of Vacuum-Assisted Closure (VAC) devices.
Recent experience in experience in dermal injection techniques for administration of local therapies.
ACLS Certification (or within 6 months of hire).
Knowledge of chemotherapeutics, biologic infusions, and immunosuppressant agents.
Possession of valid California RN and Nurse Practitioner license without restriction
DEA within 3 months of hire
Graduation with a master’s degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
National NP board certification in an aligned specialty with the practice area
Current BLS and CPR
Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, float to other areas and work weekends and holidays.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and be able to reposition patients for examination, plus stand on feet over extended periods.
