The role you’ll contribute: RN PICC team
The PICC Registered Nurse is responsible for the placement, monitoring and assessment of peripherally inserted central catheters. This position serves as a resource for patient care within an assigned group of patients as related to other clinical activities. The PICC Nurse is responsible for overall control of the quality and performance improvement tracking related to PICC lines and continued care of the patients with centrally inserted central catheters. Provides educational resources as related to PICC lines and care of the centrally inserted central catheters. Incumbent must utilize both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment. Uses the nursing skills of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in their patient care delivery.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
- Inserts and monitors peripherally inserted central catheters using sterile techniques and safety precautions. Completes appropriate PICC insertion charges and procedural documentation as per hospital policy and procedures.
- Serves as a resource for staff with regards to peripherally inserted central catheter assessment, products and procedures regarding the care of the patient with the above mentioned apparatus.
- Serves as a resource for all hospital personnel and patients and their families.
- Assess patient’s eligibility and needs for peripherally inserted central catheters. Notify physician if patient does not meet criteria for PICC insertion. Document patient record(s) accordingly.
- Overall control of the quality and performance improvement tracking related to PICC lines and continued care of the patients with peripheral inserted central catheters.
- Provides in-service training and educational resources to staff as related to PICC lines and care of peripherally inserted central catheter access.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- Minimum qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Associates Degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Unit specific competency must be met within 90 days of start date.
- Must have at least two years of clinical experience in PICC line insertion and one year of recent experience practicing as registered nurse in a hospital setting.
- Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science and Master’s
- Current certificate in Oncology nursing
