Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Certified Medical Assistant III performs a variety of patient care, technical, and administrative duties to assist practitioners and other members of the healthcare team in providing high quality patient care throughout the health care system. The Medical Assistant participates as a team member in the overall function of the clinic. The Medical Assistant is responsible for the flow of patients for their assigned areas (as applicable) each day. They perform duties and procedure as describes by the Primary Responsibilities section.
Responsibilities
Communication and Customer Service:
- Acts as a courteous, polite representative of the department.
- Creates a safe and comfortable environment by demonstrating caring behavior and conveying confidence.
- Promotes and maintains effective communication as evidenced by:
- Demonstrates respect for the ideas, opinions, and feelings of others.
- Seeking help with problem-solving, as needed.
- Giving and receiving appropriate feedback
- Being aware of and assuming responsibility for the effect of his/her own behavior and communications with others.
- Handling confidential information appropriately.
- Providing clear and relevant information to the appropriate person.
Role Development:
- Establishes annual goals for personal growth and development with the supervisor.
- Takes initiative and responsibility for identifying and pursuing continued learning opportunities.
- Participates in education programs appropriate to the role.
Qualifications
Required:
- Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA).
- Minimum two+ years as a Medical Assistant preferably in an ambulatory clinic.
- Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice
- Surgical Technologist Registration in the State of Washington State and must be familiar with the State's conduct and standards of practice (Application must be submitted within 1st 30-days of hire)
- Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two year.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives
- Ability to appropriately respond to emergencies or disasters per clinic protocol
- Experienced in Electronic Medical Records
- Demonstrates initiative as evidenced by advancing technical skills, sharing knowledge with others, and taking on more responsibility.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Proficient in computer skills to support operations.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve. Ability to work in a fast paced, complex healthcare.
Preferred:
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) conferred by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting preferred.
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, and there are no exceptions for any employee who is patient-facing and/or requires access to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center facilities. Exceptions exist only for employees whose positions are fully remote, with no required access to campus. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees requiring access to campus must provide proof of vaccination before their first day of employment.
The hourly pay range for this position is from $27.52 to $39.18 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
