The journey along the Cancer Care Continuum can be long and arduous, made more difficult by the twists and turns of the various treatment options. Compass Oncology, the Pacific Northwest's largest Private Practice Cancer Center is looking for an experienced Nurse to join our team as Registered Triage Nurse. Working the front lines of patient interaction, this individual will help guide our patients, answer clinical questions, and gather more information for our physicians so changes or adaptations to current regimens happen in a timely manner. While a current or pending OCN certification is preferred, a nurse with high level triage experience and strong assessment skills will find success in this role.

Salary Range: $39.02-$60.95 Per Hour

Job Scope: A telephone triage nurse assesses patient needs over the telephone, collaborates with a physician or qualified staff member to meet those needs, then documents all elements of care in the patient's medical record. The telephone triage nurse will accurately identify patients with high risk conditions and will direct care to the appropriate resources if they cannot be managed by the nurse and/or within the clinic. Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and organizational standards and guidelines for specialty care and scope of practice per state licensing board. Must recognize physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of care and participates in company-wide quality initiatives. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities:
Addresses patient calls, portal messages and emails in a timely manner concerning a wide range of symptom / side effect related topics
Asks appropriate, open ended questions as well as utilizes computerized algorithms/pathways to assist in the assessment of patient's symptom and side effect management inquiries and documentation of such interventions.
Assesses urgency of patient symptoms / side effects and addresses them appropriately, aggressively managing them to prevent unnecessary emergency department and hospital utilization
Documents all conversations with patients to maintain a comprehensive medical record
Provides clear instruction and education to patients via the telephone
Evaluates and determines if emergency care is needed, or if the patient can be seen in the outpatient clinic
Collaborates with physicians via electronic communication, face to face, or the telephone to discuss patient care needs that cannot be independently and appropriately addressed using standing orders or practice protocols
Sets up same day and/or future provider/infusion room appointments to address symptom management concerns

Critical Skills:
Strong patient assessment skills
Demonstrated knowledge of oncology or applicable specialty therapies and medications, potential side effects and appropriate management / nursing interventions thereof
Collaboration and coordinating with team members (providers, schedulers, etc.)
Ability to identify patient concerns and symptom related problems through collection of information
Incorporates critical thinking into daily activities
Demonstrates an ability to quickly prioritize and re-prioritize patient needs and tasks throughout the day
Ability to navigate EMR and computer software systems
Ability to navigate multiple computer programs, patient and hospital portals simultaneously
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present information in an organized framework-SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation)
Qualifications: Education:
Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
Current RN state license with the applicable State Board of Nursing.
Current CPR certification required.
Current or pending Oncology or applicable specialty certification preferred.
Experience/Training:
Minimum of (0-3) years of nursing experience required.
Oncology or applicable specialty experience preferred.
Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in the treatment of cancer is preferred.
