Position Summary
The PA fulfills many roles inpatient and outpatient. Ideally candidate will have a 1:1 relationship with a Neurosurgeon and work together to provide comprehensive care for patients.The PA will be required to work with all physicians and members of the Neurosurgery team when covering call, vacations, or sick leave. Shared call schedule of 1:7 nights and weekends when at full staff.Call requirements may vary based on staffing. Travel between Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses will be required.
Inpatient Care:
First Assist in operating room, including under microscope, patient positioning, skin closure, dressing placement, pre and postoperative order placement and rounding. Shunt evaluations with taps or nuclear med studies. Drain removals. APP's are responsible for daily rounding on patients in the PICU, NICU, neuroscience, and oncology units. Other responsibilities include Emergency room evaluations, new consults, and acceptance of patient transfers from outlying centers.
Clinic Care:
Neurosurgical patient consults, postoperative follow ups, and occasional concussion patients. Procedures in clinic may include shunt reprogram, shunt taps, and suture/staple removal. May be required to see patient's independently. All patient evaluations may require recommendations for further radiographic testing, sleep studies, or subspecialists. Development of assessing radiographic images will be essential.
License / Certification: Physician Assistant Certification by the NCCPA Certification Board and MN Medical Board license required. Maintain current BLS certification.
Education: Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistants program. Masters degree required.
Experience: At least 2 years surgical/First Assist experience preferred. Must have, or possess the ability to obtain DEA registration. Successfully complete Hospital and Payer credentialing process required
