Overview: Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, Colorado's largest and most comprehensive provider of cancer care has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Part Time Registered Nurse in our Rose Oral Pharmcy (Denver).

Responsibilities: Under minimal supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients who are receiving oral oncolytic prescriptions from our in-office dispensary. Demonstrates knowledge of specific medications and also age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. This includes physiological, psychological, and developmental differences unique to each group. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Primary Responsibilities
-Familiarizing self with the intricacies of each of the oral oncolytic medications dispensed from the pharmacy
-Providing over-the-phone or in-person counseling to patients who are initiating a new drug therapy
-Counseling includes directions for use, dose, frequency, administration, timing, missed-dose, anticipated side effects, management of those side effects, adverse events, black-box warnings, labs to be monitored and frequency of those labs
-Establishing (with the pharmacist) a drug-specific protocol for follow-up, assessment and monitoring of each medication dispensed
-Conducting outbound phone calls to each patient who started a new oral oncolytic medication at appropriate increments (day 7, day 14, day 21, etc.) for first 2-3 months of therapy
-Records patient data from each phone call and manages needs appropriately (promotes adherence, manages side effects, orders labs, contacts the prescriber, suggests office visit/urgent care/ER)
Secondary Responsibilities
-Handling all aspects of prescription processing (learns all duties in the pharmacy)
-Processing new prescription orders through pharmacy software, building patient profiles ensuring all insurance, demographic, and health information is obtained and entered into the system in an accurate and timely manner.
-Submitting and obtaining prior authorizations from insurance,
-Finding financial assistance through manufacturer programs and foundations and facilitating the application process
-Filling and labeling medications
-Packaging and shipping medications via FedEx.
- Collecting co-pays and charging accurately
-Answering incoming phone calls and also making outbound calls to patients to schedule delivery of refills
-Documents nursing assessments, patient teaching and fluid and medication administration in the patient chart. Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician.
Salary Range:
$34.00 - $45.00

Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred. Minimum of three years nursing experience, oncology required. Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in the treatment of cancer. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain continuing education requirements.
Nurses with OCN certification are eligible for OCN Incentive Pay after 90 days of employment or upon obtainment of certification.
