The Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention (SCHARP) at Fred Hutch is a full service statistical and data management center focused on HIV prevention research. SCHARP has an annual budget of over $40 million, more than 180 employees and is currently managing over 40 active phase I - III clinical trials in over 150 clinical sites around the world. SCHARP is seeking a Manager, Software Development.
The Manager, Software Development manages a software development team responsible for implementing and support computerized systems that support the business needs of SCHARP. In addition, they mentor software developers, provide technical leadership, and establish best practices for software development.
Responsibilities
May include some or all of the following:
- Manage and lead a team of software developers. Set goals, assign tasks, and review performance. Responsible for hiring development staff.
- Lead the design and implementation of complex computer systems. Manage the support and maintenance of systems after release.
- Work cooperatively with cross-functional teams of project managers, business analysts, testers, and customer representatives within a system development life cycle and computer system validation program.
- Mentor development staff on software programming and design best practices. Drive programming excellence and discipline, including the production of high-quality and maintainable code.
- Constantly improve the development processes, tools and methodologies used by developers.
- Promote teamwork and problem resolution. Foster an environment of open discussion, debate, and questioning while always maintaining professionalism and respect for others.
- Identify and recommend new technology directions and platforms.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- At least 3-years of experience managing software development teams.
- At least 5-years of professional experience in software development.
- Expertise with modern OOP paradigms and languages.
- Experience with relational data modeling, both conceptual and physical.
- Ability to understand a system of complex interactions.
- Capable of deep troubleshooting and discovering root causes of problems.
- Experience creating and documenting system design and architecture.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to work effectively within and across departments.
- Experience working within a Systems Development Life Cycle.
- Excellent organization skills - ability to work effectively and independently prioritize tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science.
- Experience with service-oriented architecture, especially microservices.
- Working in a regulated environment such as 21 CFR Part 11, Sarbanes-Oxley, or HIPAA.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $133,245 to $210,600 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
