The Nursing Director - Oncology is responsible for the overall, day to day clinical operation of the Optum Cancer Care Centers and is responsible to ensure that the services provided by the agency are consistent with the organizations strategic goals and philosophy of care and the best practice standards of Oncology.
In addition, the Nursing Director is responsible to ensure that oncology services provided within the respective clinics are provided in compliance with Oncology Standard of Practice, State and Federal regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Overall day to day clinical operations of multiple Oncology Clinics
- Plans, directs and coordinates clinical care at all Optum Care – Cancer Care Clinics including the research division.
- Ensuring that the organization(s) provides quality/coordinated oncology services to ensure the provision of the highest quality care and maximal throughput
- In collaboration with the Operations Leadership, assesses clinic census, staffing and operational requirements on an ongoing basis; provide input and recommendations as to the number and types of clinical staff and other resources required to meet the oncology programs goals and service delivery
- Ensuring that the oncology services provided by the agency are provided in compliance with State and Federal Regulations (documentation and delivered care)
- Oversight of oncology clinic staff to ensure oncology care is evidence based and in alignment with relevant national and international standards
- Assures the goals of Optum Care Cancer Care are consistent and in alignment with goals of Optum Care
- Assures that the services provided by the Cancer Care Program operate within appropriate budgets
- Oversight, development and ongoing revision of program policies and procedures for the care of patients and the operation of clinics
- In collaboration with the Administrator, assures that Optum Care Cancer Care engages in strategic planning and development of its organization and services
- Research Leadership to ensure clinical staff are aware of and able to support research initiatives (where required)
- In collaboration with Optum Care Human Resources, develop position descriptions for clinic staff
- In collaboration with Optum Human Resources and other agency staff, coordinate the recruitment and hiring of qualified clinical and support staff
- Assure annual performance evaluations are completed for all agency staff
- In collaboration with Optum Human Resources, assures that the agency maintains effective recruitment, and retention efforts that foster a climate of professionalism and development
- Ensure that the clinics maintain an active and effective orientation program, ongoing competency assessment, ongoing supervision and performance management to assure that oncology care is provided by qualified, competent professionals
- Lead non-physician clinical team assure that all services provided by the agency meets both internal and external customer's expectations
- Represents Optum Care Cancer Care in the community
- Remain current within Oncology focusing on professional development and networking
- Ensuring that the organization maintains an active and effective quality assurance and performance improvement program
- In collaboration with Optum NV marketing and public relations, and as applicable, assures the accuracy of information provided to the public regarding the organization’s services
- Ensures clinical operations within Optum Care Cancer Care Clinics are operated in congruence with the strategy, mission and vision of the greater Organization

- OCN Certification or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire
- Current ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate (or previously held certification)
- Current Nevada Registered Nurse license, temporary NV RN license, BSN or have the ability to obtain
- 5+ years of supervisor/management experience (within Ambulatory Oncology preferred)
- 5+ years of experience providing direct patient care, demonstrated competence in Oncology patient care setting
- Ambulatory Oncology nursing experience
- Demonstrated experience with planning and budgeting
- Demonstrated direct responsibility for an ambulatory clinic/department
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree (or pursuing) in Nursing/Health Administration/Business Administration
- 10+ years of management experience
- 5+ years of Ambulatory Oncology Nursing Leadership experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
- Experience using IntelliDose
- Experience using NextGen
- Leadership experience in complex organizational structures
- Experience participating or leading Quality Improvement Projects
- Experience with multidisciplinary change management
- Experience with LEAN Methodology
Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Nevada residents is $118,000 to $226,800 per year.
